Employee Development
Employee Engagement
Employee engagement is essential to Elliott; we firmly believe that high levels of employee engagement are attributable to higher productivity, retention, customer satisfaction, innovation and reduced organisational costs.
The Elliott Employee Opinion Survey is an integral part of how we manage our employees and we use this survey to identify where we need to invest more time and energy in order to create a positive workforce. We have achieved a strong response rate with 52% of employees taking part in our first survey in 2010.
The Elliott group encourages employee involvement and engagement in delivering a service second to none within our sector. The Group believes that consultation in the areas of business performance; initiative; health and safety performance; environmental performance and community involvement is paramount and develops “organisational citizenship”. The Group believes that its employees can, when treated with respect and have their views valued, deliver higher productivity by taking ownership of their roles and responsibilities and pride in the quality of the product.
To achieve these aims we have measured employee attitudes and have taken cognisance of their views on a range of issues. These will be built into people management strategies and policies aligned with the wider business objectives.
We consult with our employees on many issues including the statutory requirement of consultation on health and safety Issues. We believe the drivers for full engagement are:
- Recognition of views and involvement in the decision making process
- Making a difference
- Employee sense of managerial fairness and trust in the organisation
- Job development
The Elliott Group encourages engagement on three levels: intellectual, affective and social.
Investment in people development
To support Elliott’s’ aspiration to grow the most talented and engaged workforce in our sector we have begun a programme in 2010 of significant additional investment in employee development.
Our employees are generally long serving, which is a good indicator that Elliott is a great place to work. This means it is more important than ever that we continue to invest in the skills of our people so that we continue to grow and remain a market leader and retain the talents and enthusiasm that our people bring.
Our programmes of investment include a wide range of skills and knowledge ranging from technical skills like driving licences and trade construction skills; to people skills like leadership development and Management skills.
As Elliott is a growing organisation we are also investing in internal programmes to support our new employees during their induction into our organisation, delivering technical job related skills as well as providing dedicated coaches to support them through the process.
Coupled with our aim to achieve the Investor in People award at our first locations during 2011, Elliott is fast becoming an exciting and desirable place to work.
Foundation Degree
Foundation Degrees are designed to equip employees for a particular area of work – as well as giving them general skills that are useful in any type of job.
They are university-level qualifications, like other degrees. But Foundation Degree courses are designed with a particular area of work in mind, with the help of the employer.
Typically, you’ll get the chance to learn in the workplace as well as the classroom. And because it’s often possible to study flexibly, in a way that suits you. Foundation Degrees offer a route into higher education for people of all ages and backgrounds.
Elliott is investing in a five year programme to deliver Foundation Degree’s in Leadership to its brightest and most talented employees, working in partnership with Coventry University.
The programme is designed to develop the future leaders of our organisation. The first cohort is already underway and the programme is delivering tangible successes both for Elliott and the students.
Each cohort will follow a two year programme of study in all areas of self and people development and leadership skills.
Watch out for case studies and success stories from our students as the programme progresses.
