Presdales – Sports Facilities
Elliott Off-Site Building Solutions was commissioned through the Mace / Hertfordshire County Council Framework to design and build a new multi-purpose sports hall and associated accommodation including external sports pitches, landscaping and car parking.
The sports hall consists of 4 courts over 600m2 designed in accordance with Sport England standards. Adjoining the hall is a gym equipment room, storage spaces and 400m2 of changing facilities and showers. Additional accommodation includes teaching spaces, display areas and a switch room incorporating a fully wired IT network and a mechanical plant room servicing the hot water and heating for the building.
The main hall construction is a steel frame with barrel vault roof and masonry infill panels with the single storey building being predominately timber frame construction. The external façade combines a monocouche render to the front elevation and brickwork and cedar cladding to the hall elevations.
The sports hall is naturally ventilated via 4 large passive stack ventilation devices with remote sensors and automated motorised damper controls. Heating is via gas fired Ambi-Rad panels mounted at high level and controlled via room sensors and programmable switchgear. Changing facilities, office and teaching spaces have under floor heating and heat exchange ventilation units to provide comfortable conditions.
This project was one of two sports hall projects that were designed and constructed concurrently for Hertfordshire CC. Both projects were completed on budget and four weeks ahead of programme to an extremely high standard.
