Scarborough General Hospital 28-Bed Single Storey Ward Block
Elliott Off-Site Building Solutions was commissioned by Scarborough and North East Yorkshire NHS Trust (The Trust) for the construction of the new Maple Ward, a 28-bed single-storey ward development at Scarborough General Hospital. Maple Ward consists of seven three-bed wards along with seven Approved Document M (Mobility) single bed en-suite rooms. Additional facilities include a quiet room for patients, offices, along with changing and a rest room for medical staff.
The single-storey building has a hybrid steel frame and timber panel structure with exterior brick cladding. A key requirement of the client was that the structure was designed so that additional storeys could be added in the future. The roof was designed with a nominal pitch to allow for this with minimal alterations to the building.
The timber infill panels are designed with an insulated cavity to provide the building with excellent thermal performance, which also reduces construction times compared to more traditional methods. Elliott Off-Site was involved in all mechanical and electrical aspects of the project including installation of medical gases, water, access control, CCTV, nurse call systems and fire alarms. The building is fully compliant with Health Technical Memoranda and Health Building Notes standards.
“We have been delighted with the professionalism and expertise provided by Elliott Off-Site on this complex build programme. Their experience in the healthcare sector was a definite advantage and meant they could handle all aspects of the project through to handover.”
Malcolm Miller, Capital Projects Manager – The Trust
