Main Drivers/Constriants
Elliott using two of their divisions, Off-Site Building Solutions & Modular Buildings were commissioned by Tube Lines Ltd to construct a state-of-the-art technical training, apprentice workshop and accommodation building, along with modular office accommodation and a security gatehouse, at Stratford Market Depot in East London.
Project Description
The purpose-built skills training centre brings together all of Tube Lines training, skills and competency programmes. The centre offers many entry level and advanced courses ranging from basic safety training to IT induction and advanced railway engineering.
The ground floor of the facility is utilised for training purposes and has five sections of track each fitted with points and signalling equipment, as well as a purpose built simulator signal control room. It also has a canteen area and changing facilities.
The first floor consists of the training rooms and a viewing void within the concrete first floor.
The technical training building was constructed using a full steel portal frame with blockwork to the ground floor and timber wall panels to the first floor, both with Kingspan cladding. The foundations were bored piles with a 150mm thick reinforced concrete slab.
The modular office accommodation building was constructed over three floors with a total of 84 modules using factory engineered modules. Kingspan cladding was also used externally with a warm roof with a single ply membrane covering. A modular security gatehouse was also provided as part of the works. The external works consisted of paving, fencing and turnstiles for secure access.
