Thorns Community College
Main Drivers/Constraints
During the school holidays, an inspection of Thorns Community College in Brierley Hill was made by Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council. It was found that due to shifting foundations the annexe building was considered unsafe and eleven classrooms were immediately condemned. This left the council with no other alternative but to source temporary accommodation and contacted Elliott Modular Buildings.
Project Information
A total of 29 bays, including a toilet block were refurbished and installed and the following refurbishments were made on site:
- Buildings painted inside and out and fitted with new flooring
- Disabled toilet fitted
- All external doors and the majority of the internal doors replaced, complete with suited locking system
- All fire exit doors within the double classrooms required blocking off and decorating
- 5 of the buildings required re-roofing
- New guttering and downpipes fitted
- Electrical works and additional requirements carried out
Benefits Achieved/Key Features
An installation team were on site twelve hours a day, seven days a week to ensure the agreed completion date was achieved and in less than three weeks from the order being placed, the work was completed.
