Medical libraries

A vital reference centre in hospitals and health organisations, medical libraries need to be user friendly, safe and practical.

What our clients have to say

“Elliott was able to work with a multitude of stakeholders to coordinate the construction phase of our new medical library and avoid disruption to the hospital – finishing the building ahead of the programme and within budget. We particularly liked their ability to act as project manager, which meant we had a single point of contact.” Gwent Healthcare NHS Trust

Case study

Gwent Healthcare NHS Trust appointed Elliott to design and build the Library and Medical Illustrations Building at Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport.

The two storey building, which was on a sloping, constrained site, offers:

  • Medical illustrations department
  • Treatment rooms
  • Photography and illustrations studio
  • Computer suite
  • Retinal treatment rooms
  • Kitchen
  • Reception and meeting area
  • 24 hour library
  • Computer suite
  • Teaching and seminar rooms

The project was designed to comply with HTM and includes BMS control and CCTV systems.

  • Lightweight
The strong yet lightweight nature of the modular solution allowed large elements of the building to be positioned quickly and easily on the constrained sites, minimising disruption to the hospital and reducing foundation requirements.
  • Speed of construction
Modular construction means your project will be completed quicker because many of the building elements are delivered to site pre-fabricated. This can reduce build times by as much as 50 per cent compared to conventional methods.
  • Minimised Site Disruption
With significantly reduced deliveries on site, less waste and shorter build times there is minimum disruption to staff and patients.
  • Quality and compliance of build
Healthcare professionals choose modular construction because it results in guaranteed levels of quality as many of the elements are produced in a factory controlled environment - to ISO9001 quality standards.
  • Sustainability
Through careful design and choice of sustainable materials we are able to achieve a 20 per cent reduction in CO² compared to current building regulation requirements, and up to BREEAM outstanding. High performance insulation to improve U values, excellent air permeability and use of an efficient heating and ventilation all added to our green credentials.
