  • Kingswoods Elliott Permanent Modular Accommodation Block

The innovative approach taken by Elliott involved using its timber frame system to design and build a facility that offers 10 guest bedrooms and eight staff retreats, along with en suite shower and WC facilities.

Acting as Principal Contractor, as part of a design and build solution, Elliott completed the new accommodation block at Kingswood’s Dearne Valley Outdoor Pursuit Centre in Doncaster, on time and within budget.

Kingswood is a leading provider of residential trips and tours for schools. As one of the organisations most environmentally sustainable centres, complete with its own water recycling plant, sustainability was always going to be a key requirement on this project.

Elliott secured the contract because its timber frame system enabled large elements to be supplied and assembled on site quickly, creating a weather tight seal within days. As timber is a lightweight yet strong construction system it also lessened the requirement for carbon-intensive foundations and again this improved sustainability of the project.

Bertrand Quenot, Managing Director at Elliott, said. “The new accommodation block for Kingswood demonstrates what can be achieved with our timber framed systems. Aside from creating a very sustainable and homely building, it is dry-fix solution from the foundations up, which results in a very efficient build schedule.”

Elliott timber frame systems offer many advantages over conventional builds, alongside acoustic and thermal performances to latest standards for residential accommodation.

The building has a fully programmable access control system and is DDA compliant. The external facade is finished in attractive Larch cladding, with a pitched roof to match existing buildings on site.

Elliott completed all aspects of the project including landscaping, fencing and access roads, providing the client with a turn-key handover.
