How long have you been working in construction?

I have worked for Elliott for 20 years; and have supplied to the Construction industry for 20 years too.

Why do you think it is important to have women working in what in theory is a male dominated working environment?

The Suffragettes were the driving force in enabling women’s voices and opinions to be listened to and recognised. Without the Suffragette movement we would not be talking about ‘Women in Construction’ this week; we wouldn’t be reviewing the pay differential between men and women and Women wouldn’t be recognised and encouraged to strive for and aspire to achieve promotion in the workplace.

Why do you love construction?

I love ‘the construction environment’ because it is fundamental to the development of the UK political environment. Development of our infrastructure network and the growth of our House building program for example will enable the UK to develop and continue to be a leading force in the World economy.

Why is Elliott a good employer for equality?

Elliott employs a fair percentage split of men and women, and although there is a gender pay gap, that is detrimental to the women in our Organisation, it has been recognised and is being addressed. Elliott encourages personal development and organises numerous training programmes for many, diverse roles. Women and Men are encouraged to develop their skills and expertise in equal
measure.

Why do you think that the work the Suffragettes did is important?

The Suffragettes were the driving force in enabling women’s voices and opinions to be listened to and recognised. Without the Suffragette movement we would not be talking about ‘Women in Construction’ this week; we wouldn’t be reviewing the pay differential between men and women and Women wouldn’t be recognised and encouraged to strive for and aspire to achieve promotion in the workplace.
