Mayfield Primary Academy

Operating as a 315 place 1.5-form entry school complete with a 26 place nursery, the existing buildings stood as a time-served ‘CLASP’ system which were in a poor state of repair, and inefficiently configured. The existing school buildings were located to the centre of the site which limited the capacity for external play and team sports.

The strategic vision for the new facility, delivered through the Education Funding Agency’s (EFA) Priority School Building Programme (PSBP), was to increase the pupil intake to 420 as a 2-form entry with 30 nursery places. The scheme required the new school to stay on the site of the existing facility, with the existing pupils decanting into temporary facilities.

Crowd Control Barrier Event

Providing efficient crowd control barriers for tens of thousands of Hindus from all across England and Wales attending the “Krishna Speaks” event in Leicester. The preacher rarely attends events outside India and his eight-day visit attracted people from America, Africa and elsewhere in Europe.

Crowd control barriers were needed to ensure a secure site; to control the crowds at the entrance of the event, to help queuing in the dining tents, to keep the public away from certain areas, to protect entrances and exits of the tents and allow easily funnelling of attendants in and out of the main tents. Securing the site and providing the event organisers with quality solutions was incredibly important.

Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind: Welfare & Office Buildings

The Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind Farm is a joint venture 504MW farm between SSE Renewables and RWE Renewables with 140 turbines, providing enough low-carbon renewable energy to power the equivalent of over 400,000 UK homes.

During construction phase, two modular buildings were required to provide quality CDM-compliant welfare and comfortable office space facilities for the contractor crews. The project, located on a former herring site, is in a remote location with minimal local amenities, so the quality of the welfare and modular offices was a key consideration for the 260-week lease period.

Following in-depth consultations with main contractor SSE Renewables, Elliott designed and built fully-furnished welfare and office accommodation to meet the client needs. The modular buildings were installed onto the concrete base of a previously demolished building, so Elliott undertook a full ground investigation to establish the foundation solution and service connections required.

Hilderthorpe Primary Academy

The school was in need of refurbishment of the majority of its building elements, including very substantial re-roofing, replacement of windows and external doors, concrete and brickwork repairs, toilet refurbishments, extensive electrical and mechanical services work. Arundel Court Primary Academy

‘Make a difference. Be outstanding’. That is the vision at the heart of Arundel Court Primary Academy in Portsmouth.

This inner-city primary school has gone from strength to strength in recent years. Teaching standards have improved at all levels, recognised by OFSTED as being good and outstanding in areas such as leadership & management, behaviour, curriculum, care, guidance and more.

After receiving funding from the ESFA to replace their ageing buildings, the next stage of their growth was to be their most ambitious yet - replacing the whole school with a single new building on its existing site, large enough to accommodate 630 pupils.

The proposal of a new three-storey modular building designed, manufactured and fully installed by Elliott was not all plain sailing. The Academy is nestled in the heart of a residential area, surrounded by roads. Plans were subject to some local objection with concerns over proximity and overlooking of the new structure.
