Task

Responsibility for all design related activities from pre-construction through to operational delivery.

Provide leadership and clear direction to the pre-construction and post contract design teams, giving guidance in all aspects in order to meet business objectives.

Engage and manage team of external consultants and construction professionals to meet project deliverables

Plan and monitor the release of design deliverables to meet the client and Elliott programme objectives.

Actively engage with OSS Senior Management Team to help develop and implement the business strategy that will maintain and improve the division’s turnover and profitability.

• Clear plans in place and implemented to improve design process by removing waste and improving team efficiency

• Demonstrable improvement in design office efficiency using streamlined process and where appropriate new technology Stable team in place with clear development plans to demonstrate continuous improvement and ability to delivery long term business strategy

Roles and Responsibilities

· Establish, maintain and manage effective project design resource and team profile from pre-construction to delivery

· Through your team manage and coordinate safely the overall design process through the RIBA design stages challenging the brief and bringing innovation and continuous improvements benefits to the projects

· Lead, support and coach the design team to meet the business strategic objectives.

· Actively engage with OSS Senior Management Team to help develop and implement the business strategy that will maintain and improve the division’s turnover and profitability.

· Monthly design reporting to Technical Director or Senior Management team

· Through your team Manage the submission of all technical documentation including BIM, building control, reviewable design data, discharge of planning conditions and BREEAM for example.

· Through your team Manage and monitor RFI process, CDM compliance Review, challenge and comment on Elliott Design and consultant / Sub-contractor design information for compliance with contract and drive best value.

· Through your team Manage any design changes, participate in appointment of sub-contractors with commercial including scope of works, attend pre-let meetings and site progress meetings to report on design progress / issues.

· Develop Elliott design consultant supply chain. Assess capabilities to determine suitability for the objectives and monitor performance

· Manage the formal appointment of design consultants, ensuring design responsibilities are fully aligned with project objectives. Input into consultants appointments at work winning stage and selection of design consultants.

· Responsibility for implementation, maintenance and delivery of a robust design management process in to ensure an efficient and relevant ISO 9001 Quality Assurance system is maintained

· Develop close working relationships between all departments including commercial, manufacturing and operations. Assisting in the smooth handover of projects from pre-construction design to assembly and operational delivery.

· Understand the responsibilities of the a Designer, Principal Designer and Principal Contractor as defined in the CDM Regulations 2015

· Principal Designer: Plan, manage, monitor and coordinate H&S in the pre-construction phase of each project. Identify, eliminate or control foreseeable risks, ensuring Designers appointed by Elliott carry out their duties under the CDM Regulations 2015

· Support Operations team with the production of Temporary works schedules and designers .

· Liaise with any Principal Designer Advisors appointed by Elliott

· Identify and manage risks and opportunities, identifying design solutions to eliminate, reduce or control risks and exploit opportunities for improvement in safety, quality and cost.

· Assist the work winning team on major bids including reviewing tender information for risk / opportunity , potential VE , win strategies . If requested undertake “ critical friend “ review of bid submission documents .

· Guide, coach and support members of the design team to share best practice and strive to learn and advance own personal knowledge and experience

Hierarchical Relation

Line management report to UK Technical Director

Lead and manage a team of up directly employed design professionals.

Liaising with clients, consultants and at all levels of the wider Elliott organisation

Work Experience:
· Min 10 years Demonstrable / proven track record of leading a multi-disciplinary team delivering innovative design solutions within the construction industry on varied project types for example commercial , Healthcare , Primary , Secondary and Higher education and MOD .
· Experience working in a client facing role dealing with construction professionals and those without professional or specialized knowledge.
· Knowledge of design and design interrogation software such as Navisworks and Revit for example would be an advantage but training will be provided
· Must be from a Structural, Construction, Civil, Architectural or construction related Product Design background
· Experience within Offsite and Modern Methods of Construction an advantage but training will be provided
