Working with Regional Managing Directors and Function Heads to drive up the standards of EHS performance within the business. Build effective and lasting relationships with key customers

Manage a Team of SHEQ Professionals who provide direct support to the line management throughout Elliott, including the depots across the UK and also the construction and customer site operations.

Champion all aspects of Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability across the business with a view to develop and embed a culture of safety throughout the organisation.

Key Success Factors

Success in a 6 months will include:
Establishing working relationship with the Function Heads and Regional Managing Directors.
Familiarisation with the fixed depot locations, product range and customer site activities across the business.
Establish contacts with the main key customers and gain an understanding of their perception of Elliott safety and their requirements from Elliott
Define a plan and timescale to achieve a 5* BSI audit
Familiar with the business and the requirements of customers and other stakeholders.
Viewed by the function heads as the go to person for EHS assistance.

Success in 1 year will include:
Improved standards of legal compliance and hazard control across the business.
A clear Road Map for the business.
Action control systems owned by the local management.
Quantifiable improvements in the Audit Score system with the future improvement plan owned at a regional and depot management level.
Increased competence and safety leadership by the management team.
Effective incident investigation conducted by the local management.
A schedule of key Safety collaborations between Elliott and key customers.

Success in 3 years will include:
Developed an interdependent safety culture across the business lead by line management.
An effective Cultural and behavioural change that ensures the inclusion of health safety and environmental risks as a natural part of business operations and decision making, and not seen as a separate discipline.
Audits and inspections conducted by the SHEQ team are confirming that local management have control of risks, rather than being activities to identifying significant failings in management control.
Effective implementation of a Management System that meets the criteria of OHSAS 18001 & ISO 14001.
Effective program of audits across Elliott operations & contractors firmly established.
Elliott viewed within the industry as having the highest standards of operational risk control.

Roles and Responsibilities

Champion the safety strategy at every opportunity. Preparing and enacting a business wide road map to ensure continued improvement whilst ensuring cost control is maintained.
Establishing the EHS priorities for the business and setting out justifications for these priorities.
Drive efficiency through optimisation of resources available whilst looking to modernise the application of Safety into every workplace
Manage the internal and external PR of Elliott Safety
Establishing processes to ensure that reactive and active KPIs can be accurately determined and used to measure improvement within the business.
Co-ordinate the activities of the SHEQ team to ensure robust implementation of Elliott systems and processes to ensure the management ownership of EHS issues.
Addressing the concerns of customer specific service level agreement requirements.
Providing a knowledgeable resource for the business to refer to for EHS and product Safety enquiries.
Provide SHEQ support to the bids and tenders process.

This role involves a strategic perspective combined with pragmatic hands on ability to drive change in a diverse workplace.

Reporting to the Operations Director

6 Direct reports; 3x Regional SHEQ Managers, 2x Operational Trainers, 1x SHEQ Coordinator

Experience in construction / plant hire / heavy industry or crane
Experience of managing multiple sites

Track record of building motivated multidiscipline teams able to deliver tangable improvements to the business.

Renumeration and Advantages

Head Office is based in Peterborough, expectation would be in HQ most Mondays and Tuesdays. Role will be expected to be flexible. It will involve extensive travel within the UK.
Expected to provide support and cover for other members of the SHEQ team depending on circumstances.
