Elliott Scotland achieves the gold investors in young people award

We have achieved the prestigious Investors in Young People Gold accreditation – an achievement that represents a true commitment to the recruitment, development and retention of Scotland’s young people.

Developed in 2014 as a result of the Wood Commission recommendations, Investors in Young People is a unique framework that helps organisations in Scotland recruit, develop and retain young people, supporting youth employment.

In January 2018, a programme was undertaken to demonstrate Elliott’s commitment to investing in young people in the business.  This involved a number of workshops and meetings and resulted in a programme being developed to take us forward to accreditation.

The programme has been led jointly by Sharon Clink, HRBP and Catherine McFadzean, Key Account Manager, with invaluable input from one of our key customers in Scotland, Robertson Construction.  We would like to thank Robertson’s for their support and input and also both Sharon and Catherine for their efforts, enthusiasm and tenacity in ensuring the activities and time investment in our apprentices and local schools has been put in place to meet such a stringent accreditation.

Thanks also to David Gordon, Site Manager at our Inverurie branch and Phil Whelan, Manager at Falkirk branch for their support and work carried out with the pupils from Inverurie Academy and Denny High School.

This is a fantastic achievement for the team in Scotland as demonstrated by the comment below from the assessor’s report:

“….the Company can rightfully position itself as an Ambassador for supporting and employing Young People. In Scotland, every opportunity is taken to work with and influence partners and other stakeholders - this is seen as a way to help Young People, some of whom may have barriers to enter employment, develop skills and build their CVs and at the same time build the business.  It is also seen as a way to support communities and schools, further enhancing Elliott’s position as an organisation interested in our future workforce”.

Bonnie Clarke, Interim Chief Executive of Remarkable, the organisation licensed to deliver Investors in Young People said:

“This is a fantastic achievement for Elliott, congratulations!  Investors in Young People not only recognises and supports organisations in the employment of young people it also marks them out as an employer of choice. Our research shows that 95% of those involved with Investors in Young People say it is relevant to their organisation and as a result 93% of young people within these organisations feel valued. We wish Elliott continued success for the future."
