Our latest sustainability innovations

We can offer a range of sustainable solutions

As a company, it’s so important to make sustainability one of your main focuses in today’s climate. First and foremost because it’s important to look after the planet but secondly because you’ll often find that sustainability saves your company a lot of money, especially long term.

In the construction industry, the built environment has its part to play when it comes to UK Carbon emissions. According to Designing Buildings, the built environment accounts for:

  • 45% of total UK Carbon emissions (27% from domestic buildings and 18% from non-domestic)
  • 72% of domestic emissions come from heating these spaces and the provision of hot water.
  • 32% of landfill waste comes from the construction and demolition of buildings
  • 13% of products delivered to construction sites are sent directly to landfill without being used.

To minimise waste, you have to start thinking about sustainability from the very early stages of the design. This includes everything from energy use, energy sources, materials, ecology and the landscape, flexibility and durability, waste management, disposal and pollution. A well thought out design can limit even the need for disposal and harness energy.

Elliott have started including products in the hire options to help you work towards a more sustainable business model. A lot of these options are easy add-ons to existing buildings, so no extra hassle to hire. Energy saving options include:

Rainwater Harvesting; Elliott can predict a saving of 82mᶟ per annum, based on (admittedly quite specifically) 6 toilet flushes per hour across an eight hour working day. Working on the average cost of 1 cubic metre of water at £3.19, this is a saving of £261.58 per annum.

Energy efficient lighting; Energy saving light bulbs such as LEDs use up to 90% less electricity than the old bulbs but produce the same amount of light. They also last over 10x longer meaning less waste and expenditure. Elliott offer LED lighting with many of their units and LED are the most efficient bulbs available. LEDs are more expensive to buy but their extremely low energy consumption means they can save from £45 and £75 over an average lifespan of up to ten years.

Sustainable materials; Elliott have always manufactured products taking into account ISO 14001 environment requirements to maintain leadership in the development of new products and where possible, procuring materials from sustainable sources. Equally, timber materials can be recycled into other products.

Smart and Simple; we are using more fittings and technology these days to save energy. Whether it is as simple as automatic closing doors to retain heat or lights and heaters that switch off when there is no one to use them, we have the latest innovative technology for optimum energy efficiency.

Solar panels; we also offer the option of installing a solar panel on site to harness energy and as a result, electricity, to power your unit. Solar panels can assist with lighting and hot water.
