Willmott Dixon - Water Orton School
Client | Willmott Dixon
Form of Contract | Hire
Willmott Dixon was granted the £2m contract to build a new school in Water Orton after the previous structure was purchased. Warwickshire County Council received funding from HS2 Ltd to provide the 2-form entry school on the new site. Willmott-Dixon won the contract in September 2018 and got to work straight away. This meant the new school could open for a new intake of pupils in the autumn of 2019. Water Orton is on the line of the HS2 construction, this means there has been quite a lot of disruption to the community, school included. To guarantee the work could be completed in such a short time-frame, Willmott Dixon got in touch with Elliott for a solution.
Elliott provided Willmott Dixon with onsite facilities for the Water Orton School construction project. Using their skilled design team, Elliott create a bespoke layout using 6 metre bays to enable safe access for road users throughout the development. Water Orton is a small village with narrow roads so it was essential that there was access throughout the project so the previous school could remain open and people could go on with their lives. This meant there was no disruption for deliveries of specialist equipment, therefore, no delays to the build. Elliott created the bespoke layout using the Moduflex buildings for maximum flexibility on the size and shape of this structure. Willmott Dixon also chose to make the most of Elliott’s full turnkey solutions and hired furniture, branding and fire extinguishers.
Willmott Dixon decided to choose Elliott specifically because of the flexible approach that encompasses the company. This means designs can be tailored to suit very specific requirements for individual sites. The Turnkey solutions also prevented Willmott Dixon from the cost of the mark-ups and risk associated with sub-contractors. As the Moduflex bays were designed to unobstructive, the outcome of Willmott Dixon choosing Elliott meant they had absolutely no delays to deliveries and construction. The space provided enabled the construction workers on site to remain comfortable throughout the day which helped them complete the project to the agreed timescales with no risk to their health and safety.
