Bird College of Dance
Completion: August 2018
Elliott were appointed by Pellings to provide a new teaching and performance area at the Bird College of Dance. This consisted of a two storeys, over 14 modules. The building was to be used as a dance studio, therefore Elliott utilised their Ibex product.
Following initial discussions with the college regarding budget, Elliott provided a creative finance answer to make the scheme affordable in partnership with Solution Asset Finance.
Internally the building housed; two 90m² dance studios, two circa 60m² classrooms, a singing room, office, meeting room, entrance lobby, toilets and an external staircase to the first floor.
Elliott, principal contractor on the scheme, manufactured the solution at our Cannock factory in Staffordshire. Our Ibex product range was utilised due to the rigid nature of the suspended concrete floor and the requirement to have an internal ceiling height of 3m. In the dance studio, as requested within the specification, Elliott provided a permanent sprung floor and large floor to ceiling mirrors. The contract also included the provision of foundations and services to the building.
Externally the building featured white render with a row of brick work underneath the windows. This ensured that the aesthetics of the college were consistent across the traditional and modular buildings.
Whilst on site, our Project Manager focused on minimising disruption to the local community. An extract from the CCS report “Arrangements to keep the site’s immediate neighbours and wider local residential neighbours updated have been comprehensively considered, several goodwill gestures have been carried out for the site’s immediate neighbours”.
The college is located on a residential road, therefore for the project to be installed parking suspensions were planned in the local area. Local residents were considered and a letter was sent in advance to advise them of the closure. The project managers contact details were displayed on the site hoarding and site meetings were held every morning as Health and Safety was key throughout the project.
Following completion of the project, as part of Elliott’s commitment to the environment, we have planted trees near the new building to ensure a positive environmental contribution.
Elliott were requested to provide bicycle and storage facilities to the college to reduce reliance on private car transport that shall be permanently maintained thereafter.
Elliott’s modular division received an incredible Considerate Constructors Scheme score of 40/50 on the scheme.
