Penyrheol comprehensive school
Site | Swansea
Form of contract | Tender
Overall contract programme | 5 weeks
We heard about the devastating fire at this school from a local resident and made contact with the school to offer our services.
One of our operatives was on site within 24 hours and worked with the school to decide on the best way forward.
Within 48 hours of the fire our team understood the immediate requirements for teaching accommodation, layouts had been confirmed, budgets agreed and location of the temporary buildings identified.
- 40 no. modules delivered configured as 8 double classrooms
- 56 no. modules delivered during their summer holidays giving them a fully operational school.
The buildings featured classrooms, 2 seminar rooms, 5 laboratories, 1 preparation room, 3 art rooms, 1 staff room, offices and toilets.
The first 40 modules configured as 16 classrooms were designed, delivered, installed and completed on site for handover to teachers and pupils within 2 weeks of the fire.
The Headteacher commented that a devastating arson attack was made tolerable with the support of companies such as Elliott.
The second building installed was also completed within exceptional lead-times of only 5 weeks from instruction, the building was installed over the school’s summer shut down period to minimise disruption. Designed bespoke to meet the school’s individual requirements, this double storey meant the school was fully operational in time for the new school year.
"The classrooms look nothing like traditional ‘demountables’. They are spacious and robust and they have proved to be an excellent temporary solution to our problems."
